Marie Lindsay was appointed Principal of St Mary’s College in 2006 having taught Science in the school for 21 years. Marie had responsibility for Staff Training and Development from 1994. The school achieved numerous accolades during that time including Investors in People recognition for staff training from 1995 onwards and IIP Champion Status from 2004.
Marie joined the Senior Management Team of St Mary’s in 1998 and had responsibility for Quality Assurance. St Mary’s won the Northern Ireland Quality Award in 1998, 2001 and 2006, the British Quality Award in 2000 and the EFQM Excellence Award (European Quality Award) in 2001 and 2006. The EFQM Award is Europe’s most prestigious award for organizational excellence.
Since she was appointed Principal, Marie has ensured that St Mary’s indisputable track record of success in both turning strategy into action and continually improving has been sustained. In 2006 the school was awarded Specialist Status in Science. In May 2013 the school was re-accredited Investors in People Gold status for the 7th time. St Mary’s won the Northern Ireland Quality Award in 2012 for the 4th time and in January 2013 the school won the inaugural Ireland Excellence Award. The college has recently been assessed for the EFQM Excellence Award for a third time.
In addition the school is one of a small group of schools worldwide to be recognised as a Microsoft Pathfinder school in 2010 and was elevated to an even more select group of Microsoft Mentor Schools in 2011.
Marie has overseen the move from the former building in the Creggan to a brand new state of the art campus at Northland Road, next door to the University of Ulster’s Magee Campus.
Marie is a board member of EFQM Brussels, School Employer Connections, Foyle Learning Community, the Pope John Paul 11 Committee and the Higher Education working group. She currently chairs the Rathmore group of Post Primary Schools in the city. She represents the Post Primary Principals on the local Higher Education working group and was a member of the Sir Graeme Davies Steering Committee for the review of the Higher Education Strategy for Northern Ireland, representing the Public Sector.
