Crowdfunding has emerged as a unique method for small and nascent businesses to avoid some of the pitfalls associated with capital acquisition, by drawing on relatively small contributions from a relatively large number of individuals using the internet, without standard financial intermediaries. One example is Kickstarter, which has provided over $688 million in capital for nearly 50,000 projects. This seminar is the first one in Turkey to focus on this new concept, drawing both from academic and industry knowledge to focus on governance, regulation and financing issues, but also on challenges in setting and marketing projects.
